Minneriya vs Kaudulla: where to look for elephants?

By Serendip Unfolded · Editorial update 24 Oct 2026. General planning guidance based on our proposed routes.

Short answer: Both parks sit near Sigiriya and Habarana, and elephant herds move between them with water and season. That is why our guides choose the permitted park on the day, based on current wildlife movement and access, rather than promising one in advance.

Two parks, one flexible plan

Minneriya and Kaudulla offer open grasslands, wetlands and forest-edge habitats. Our safari is built around one flexible booking so the park can be chosen on the day.

What to expect

Patient, slow observation from a licensed jeep, a safety briefing and a drop-off near your accommodation. Big gatherings are never promised.

Half-day or full-day?

A 4-hour half-day safari covers about four hours inside the park, with transfers separate. A full-day safari follows the park's operating rules and any permitted break.
